Frequently Asked Questions
About MMU Functional Health Coach Certifications
Do I need a medical background or degree to become a functional health coach?
To become a functional health coach, a medical degree or background isn’t necessary, but it does affect the scope of practice. Individuals with medical backgrounds, like doctors, may have different capabilities and limitations compared to those without medical licenses. Prior knowledge in health-related fields can accelerate learning, but functional health coaching may offer new perspectives and approaches beyond traditional education. It’s encouraged to approach functional health or nutrition coaching with an open mind, as it can broaden perspectives and introduce new concepts, even for those with prior education in health sciences.
Do I have to be (or want to be) a coach to go through your course?
Our business-related and functional health certification courses at MMU aren’t exclusive to existing nutrition coaches, fitness coaches, metabolic health coaches, or functional health coaches – newbies, aspiring coaches, and anyone with a passion for functional health can join. Participants may seek to support their own health journey, their family’s, or simply to gain knowledge and resources about functional medicine, functional health coaching, and functional nutrition. Whether one aims to become a coach or not, MMU welcomes all individuals seeking education and community support aligned with a root cause approach in health. Advisors can assist in tailoring the learning pathway to meet individual needs and goals.
